Bronze version printed by Shapeways. Silver version printed by Sculpteo
This ring is based off the game Journey made by thatgamecompany. It is probably one of the most beautiful games that I have experienced on the PS3, and I absolutely love replaying it. I enjoy wearing videogame related accesories, so this time I decided to make a ring as an homage to the design of the game.
My process for creating this piece was actually pretty simple. I began with modeling the basic ring shape in Maya, using some general structural designs I found from the game. I then made a texture with symbols that I liked and used it to gauge where it would show up on the ring
After that, I brought it into Zbrush, used the texture as a mask, then extruded the design to make the symbols pop out. When I got to a thickness I liked, I polished and smooth the mesh a bit so that it would be nice enough to print.
Here is the timelapse of the sculpt.
When it was done, I checked the size of the ring by printing it out on my FDM printer at home, then I sent it off to Sculpteo for a final print. It's freaking awesome! :)
